World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024 Glasgow Scotland Winning Bid

Scotland’s position as ‘The Perfect Stage’ to host world-class, major events was reaffirmed when Glasgow was awarded the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in by World Athletics in December 2021.

Not only was the City and the stakeholders, Glasgow Life, EventScotland, UK Sport and British Athletics tasked with developing a winning bid in the midst of an ongoing pandemic they were also up against major competition.

This was a convergence of experience and agile thinking. We had to draw on all of our expertise in this specialised area to help identify strategy shaping insights that could be turned into a strong campaign position and narrative that was implemented into clear and coherent design outputs. We also embraced an ‘of the moment’ attitude, listening to and reflecting on, the change the world was experiencing at the time; redefining what today, constitutes value and return on investment when investing in a major event and the re prioritisation of what success means to our local communities, policy makers and society as a whole.

The pandemic meant the traditional process, incorporating opportunities to meet face to face with decision makers were no longer available to the team, as such we took great care to ensure our story left the decision makers in no doubt of our passion and purpose across the various digital channels we employed.

“We are delighted to have secured the 2024 World Athletic Indoor Championships for Glasgow and Scotland. Delivering our first bid in a virtual setting was a new challenge, however, it gave us the opportunity to think outside the box and do things differently. Brand Oath and Tanami both played a pivotal role in helping us do this and on behalf of all the partners I’d like to thank them for all their hard work in helping us produce a winning bid.”

Rhona Corscadden, interim Head of EventScotland
